(02) Funding for Atmospheric Science Ph.D. Students:

Ph.D. position summary/title: Atmospheric Sciences – Deep convection dynamics

Fundamental research on cloud dynamics in deep convective clouds over the Amazon jungle is available to a highly motivated Ph.D. student with a background in meteorology/atmospheric sciences. In this investigation, you will look at numerical models using the Large Eddy models (LES) code MicroHH, as well as observational data from the international aircraft field campaigns ACRIDICON-CHUVA and Cafe Brazil. The purpose of this study is to learn more about the processes that control the time, location, and strength of convective downdrafts, and to see what that means for cloud dynamics.

(03) Scholarships Covering All Costs:

Ph.D. position title: The carrying capacity of low-trophic aquaculture in the North Sea is being investigated.

The program is being led by a group including Wageningen University and the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ). The project’s overarching objective is to increase nature-positive, circular, low-trophic aquaculture production in the North Sea through the dissemination of new information on production systems and modeling at the ecosystem level, particularly in the mussel and seaweed sectors. To better understand the carrying capacity of seaweed and mussel production in coastal and offshore areas, the consortium participating will take into account the relationship between economic and environmental consequences and cooperate with varied user groups including nature conservation.

(04)  Doctorate in Sustainable Value Chain Design for Waste Conversion:

Ph.D. position title: Designing sustainable waste conversion value chains using decision support models

The Operations Research and Logistics department at Wageningen University is hiring doctoral candidates to work on a massive national multi-disciplinary project funded by the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO). The primary goal of the ReBBloCS project is to increase the value of various types of industrial waste by maximizing their current utilization.

(05) Awards for study of protein-protein interaction prediction using machine learning:

Ph.D. position summary: Machine learning-based prediction of protein-protein interactions

Two Ph.D. students will work together on the NWO-M2 project “Machine learning-based prediction of transcription factor protein-protein interactions” to develop a reliable computational method for predicting protein-protein interactions of TFs with complex evolutionary histories. Focusing on the MADS-domain transcription factor family, which regulates critical plant processes including flowering and fruit development, will be the strategy’s foundation. The two Ph.D. candidates will each be conducting wet-lab research to better understand the specific requirements for protein-protein interactions; one will be working in the Bioinformatics Group of the Laboratory for Molecular Biology, and the other will be in the Plant Developmental Systems Group.

(06) Graduate-level Vacancies Specificity determination in the synthesis of transcription factor complexes in plants:

Ph.D. position summary: Ph.D. research into the determination of specificity in plant transcription factor complex development

Proteins called transcription factors (TFs) interact in various ways to control gene expression, which in turn affects a wide range of biological activities. It is not yet known, however, how the specificity of protein-protein interactions is encoded in the sequence and structure of proteins, and how this determines which protein combinations can be made with distinct functions. Last but not least, this knowledge is essential for guiding and managing biological processes, as well as for elucidating the roots of human diseases and directing contemporary plant breeding practices.

(07) Urban greening and health Doctorate:

Ph.D. position title: Doctoral Candidate in urban greening and health, Marie Skłodwska-Curie Actions

To determine which type of nature is most effective in reducing stress in real-world settings, researchers will examine the relationships between objective health data and the availability of green space where people live. The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not the stress-relieving benefits of time spent in nature can help reduce health disparities between people of different socioeconomic backgrounds, and if so, which types of nature are most beneficial in this regard for people of lower socioeconomic status.

(08) Inverse Stress Testing Ph.D.:

Ph.D. position title: Ph.D. Position for Reverse Stress testing

With this suggested study, we hope to develop a backwards approach to dealing with supply chain risks. This approach reverses the usual order of things by first considering optimal conditions for a supply chain to function efficiently. The broad adoption of techniques for analyzing financial risk during the 2008 financial crisis served as inspiration for this method. For this project, you’ll employ quantitative models and strategies for clarifying and expanding upon this method. The ORL group has extensive connections in the food industry, so you’ll be working with a wide range of companies in sectors like processing and retail.
