Aalto University in Finland is offering eight Fully Funded Doctoral Scholarships For The Academic Year 2023. Those in the Ph.D. Program who would like to study abroad are encouraged to apply for one of several fully funded scholarship opportunities. There is a wide variety of courses available in fields as diverse as the arts, business, the social sciences, philosophy, design, political science, and law.
In 2010, the Helsinki University of Technology, the Helsinki School of Economics, and the Helsinki University of Art and Design merged to form what is now Aalto University, a public research university in Espoo, Finland. The collaboration between the scientific, business, and artistic spheres is meant to advance interdisciplinary study and practice. Formerly known as the Helsinki Institute of Technology, Alvar Aalto is a well-known Finnish architect, designer, and alumnus of the institution who also contributed significantly to the construction of the university’s main campus in Otaniemi. See here for information on Aalto University’s eight fully funded Ph.D. scholarships for 2023.

Grants for Optimisation-Related Ph.D. Study:
Ph.D. position summary/title: Doctoral Researcher in Optimisation
The focus of the team’s research is on improving sustainable mobility and city planning through the creation of models and approaches. Due to the increased potential number of solutions they offer, particularly integrated methods to sequential problems are developed and researched. For more complex situations, experts develop targeted heuristics based on exact methodologies developed for specific problem classes. Options for social optimization are also examined against the benefits and drawbacks of game theoretic approaches.
Deadline: 31 May 2023
Ph.D. position title: Ph.D. Student in Neuroscience
In order to characterize healthy and ill mouse models, both in terms of retinal circuitry and visually guided behavior, we are seeking exceptional Ph.D. candidates to work on these problems.
Deadline: 31 May 2023
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Ph.D. Fully Funded Scholarships:
Ph.D. position summary/title: Doctoral Researcher in Human-Computer Interaction
An HCI-focused doctoral researcher with a strong work ethic is needed. The research will center on user studies and interactive systems. A two-year contract with an additional two-year option will be provided for this post. The overarching goal is to integrate psychological ideas, models, and methods into studies of human-computer interaction.

DNA nanotechnology, doctorate level study:
Ph.D. position summary: Nanoscale DNA research, molecular assembly, active plasmonics, and artificial molecular machines are all topics of study at the doctoral level.
You’ll be responsible for the conceptualization, fabrication, and evaluation of electrically powered nanoscale molecular devices. You’ll learn state-of-the-art techniques including electron beam and optical microscopy and nanoscopy, in addition to DNA nanotechnology methods like DNA origami. Your research will center on either
- creation of artificial molecular motors
- or production of active plasmonic surfaces, both of which can be tailored to your specific expertise and research objectives.
As a member of the faculty, you will be expected to propose and create (either independently or as part of a team) scientific ideas and technical solutions, contribute to the publication of scientific articles, and share your expertise in the classroom.
Deadline: 30 May 2023
Electrochemical Discharge and Energy circularity for spent Batteries: Ph.D. Scholarships:
Ph.D. position summary/title: Electrochemical discharge and energy circularity for end-of-life batteries
We need a Ph.D. student from Aalto University’s Energy Conversion and System research group to help with battery recycling. In this position, you will have the chance to improve the way spent batteries are disposed of and ensure that valuable raw materials can be salvaged for use in future battery technologies.
Deadline: 23 May 2023
Quantum Matter and Generative Machine Learning: A Ph.D:
Ph.D. position title: Generative Machine Learning for Quantum Matter
To fill a Ph.D. position in generative machine learning for quantum many-body matter, we are soliciting applications from qualified individuals. Using many-body and machine-learning methods, the Ph.D. candidate will create artificial quantum phenomena. Quantum many-body methods, together with generative adversarial machine learning techniques like transformer and diffusion models, will be used in this investigation. The end goal of the Ph.D. candidate is to combine theoretical and experimental data to generate novel correlated states using generative machine-learning techniques.
Deadline: 20 May 2023
